One Hundred and Sixty (160) points has been approved as the minimum benchmark for students seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions. This came as the outcome of the 20th Policy Meeting on admissions to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria organized by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The meeting held on Tuesday, also approved 140 as minimum Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination score for admission into private universities.

For public polytechnic, 120 UTME score was approved, while 100 was approved for Colleges of Education, innovative enterprises and institutes.

JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, at the meeting urged tertiary institution heads not to increase admission screening charges above N2000.

Oloyede in his speech stated that only 1,157,977 candidates had the required five credits with English Language and Mathematics that sat for the UTME held in 2019.

According to him, “Out of 1,157,977 candidates who sat for UTME in 2019, about 612,557 were admitted.”

Oloyede stated that, candidates waiting for their results would only be considered when they are uploaded on the website of JAMB.

It would be recalled that since the lockdown has been imposed across Nigeria, JAMB hasn’t been able to do much things as regarding 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

But with much development in the country, the board has been making some moves as regarding 2020 admission.

Recall that before the nationwide lockdown, the board hasn’t released the 2020 admission cut off marks.

And it is worthy to note that for all candidates to be able to get admission into his/her of institution, the cut off marks are very important.

This is an annual and regular event for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as this is one of the requirements for her candidates to gain admission into any institution in Nigeria.

This minimum cut off marks will stand as a criterion for all 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates for their respective admissions.

In the policy meeting, the Federal Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has thus approved that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) should proceed with the 2020/2021 admission processes.

JAMB has equally released some guidelines that will be attached to this year’s admission processes, and it is announced that the admission processes are expected to commence by August, this year.
