A group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), APC Nigeria4Nigeria Youths Alliance (APCN4NYA) has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari and members of the party from the North are morally bound to support the presidential bid of the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2023.
That is the highpoint of the statement, issued by Secretary-General, Mr. Oludayo Ogunjebe in Abuja.
According to the group, the contributions of Asiwaju Tinubu to the formation, growth and progress of the APC was too massive and difficult to be ignored by stakeholders in the build-up to the forthcoming poll.
The year 2023, it said, will mark a watershed in the nation’s political journey when the party, particularly stakeholders from the North deliberately allows the South to take over Nigeria’s leadership mantle.
“To us, no other person in the South fits the bill to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari than Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2023, the group said.”
Ogunjebe, who lauded the political sagacity of the former Lagos State governor, stated that Tinubu has continued to stake his resources and political capital to nurture the growth and sustenance of the party.
“We members of the APC Nigeria4Nigeria Youths Alliance are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and our brothers in the various chapters of the party in the North to collectively support the bid and aspiration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for the presidency in 2023.
“It is a known fact to all Nigerians that but for the efforts, mental sagacity and resources that God has endowed Asiwaju Tinubu with, we are sure that the party won’t be in government today. One good turn deserves another.
“So to us, it should be a payback time from our brothers across the geographical divide to support him to achieve his vision of leading the country to greatness,” Ogunjebe said.
According to him, it is all about doing what is fair and right. He added that the decision by Tinubu to back President Buhari in 2015 has impacted greatly on his political capital.
Ogunjebe on behalf of the group added that Tinubu’s political choice in 2015 had pitched him against his Yoruba speaking kith and kin whom he said felt Tinubu ought to have supported a different candidate.
“Tinubu has continued to incur some form of erosion in his decision to support Buhari before and after the emergence of President Buhari.
“We recall the level of pressure on him in the heat of the Yoruba National Agitation when many people in the South-Western part of the country felt he was not forthcoming in supporting their agitation.
“To us, it would amount to double jeopardy if Tinubu is not accorded the rights and privilege to succeed Buhari in 2013,” he said.
