Wike: The Face of Renewed Hope Infrastructure in Nigeria

By Amb. Musa Muhammed Tsoken,

When history is written on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, one name will stand out in bold letters in the infrastructure column: *Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON*. As Minister of the Federal Capital Territory [FCT], popularly called *”Mr. Project”*, Wike has redefined what it means to serve the nation above party, and to turn political office into visible, life-changing results.

From Rivers to the FCT: A Legacy of Delivery

Before his appointment in August 2023, Barr. Wike had already earned the nickname “Mr. Project” as Governor of Rivers State. In 8 years, he delivered over 12 flyovers in Port Harcourt, new roads, schools, and hospitals that transformed the city’s landscape.

President Tinubu brought him into the Federal Executive Council not because of party affiliation, but because of a proven track record. Wike, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], accepted the call to serve in an APC-led government. That decision alone speaks to a rare kind of patriotism.

Driving the Renewed Hope Agenda in the FCT

Under the *Renewed Hope Agenda*, President Tinubu promised to rebuild Nigeria’s infrastructure, restore dignity to public institutions, and make government work for the people. Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF Sen Dr George Akume CON, have always reiterated the need for Nigerian to climb up to the ladder of nationalism than irrelevant critics that is not meant to uplift the standard of living of the Nigerian citizenry. FCT, Barr. Wike has since answered such a call for nation-building to become the engine room of that promise to serve the nation impeccably.

His contributions in less than two (2) years include:

Road Infrastructure Revolution.

Wike declared 2024 “the year of roads” in Abuja. He flagged off and completed the rehabilitation of key arterial roads, including the rehabilitation of the National Assembly Complex road, roads in Garki, Maitama, and Asokoro, and the completion of long-abandoned projects like the Outer Southern Expressway and the Vice President’s residence access roads. For the first time in years, residents are seeing contractors on site every week.

Restoring Abuja’s Masterplan

“Mr. Project” has taken decisive steps to enforce the Abuja Masterplan. Illegal structures, abandoned projects, and land racketeering are being tackled. The goal: to restore Abuja as a befitting capital city that works, with water, streetlights, and security infrastructure.

Healthcare and Education Upgrades

Under his watch, general hospitals in Gwagwalada, Kubwa, and Asokoro have received upgrades. Schools in satellite towns are being rehabilitated. The message is clear: development must go beyond the city center.

Security and Public Safety

By providing vehicles, gadgets, and operational support to security agencies in the FCT, Wike has helped reduce crime and “one-chance” incidents. A safer Abuja is a key pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Nationalism Above Party

What makes Barr. Wike’s story compelling is not just what he is building, but _how_ he is serving. He is a PDP leader serving diligently in an APC government.

That is the true spirit of nation-building. Party differences should not be a barrier to progress. Wike’s acceptance to work with President Tinubu demonstrates that Nigeria is bigger than PDP, bigger than APC. It is about putting country first.

As he has said in several town halls: _”I am here to work for Nigeria. Mr. President gave me an assignment and I will deliver it.”_ That is nationalism in action.

The “Mr. Project” Model for Renewed Hope.

President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is anchored on infrastructure, economic growth, and improved welfare. In the FCT, Wike is giving that agenda a human face. When a mother in Bwari can drive on a new road to the market, when a student in Lugbe can study under streetlights, when investors see a capital city that works — that is Renewed Hope delivered.

Barr. Nyesom Wike has shown that competence has no party color. He has shown that public service is not about slogans, but about concrete, asphalt, bridges, and light.

Conclusion

Nigeria needs more leaders like Barr. Nyesom Wike — leaders who will roll up their sleeves and build, regardless of which party is in power. His work in the FCT is proof that when patriots are given the opportunity to serve, the country moves forward.

In supporting the government of the day, not out of blind loyalty but out of love for country, Wike embodies the very essence of the Renewed Hope Agenda: a Nigeria where we disagree politically, but agree to build together.

Nigeria will rise. And men like “Mr. Project” are laying the foundation.
