My Future Is Greater Than Political Thuggery’ — Gombe Police Sensitise Youths

The Nigeria Police Force, Gombe State Command, has launched the national campaign against political and digital thuggery as part of activities marking the 2026 International Youth Day.

The campaign, themed “My Future Is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery,” seeks to sensitise youths on the dangers of political violence, electoral thuggery and the misuse of digital platforms.

Speaking during the launch, the Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to promoting peace, harmony and unity in the state.

CP Chuso said the Police would continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, particularly young people, to prevent activities capable of threatening peace and security.

The Gombe State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Adamu Dishi Kupto, commended the initiative, describing the campaign as timely, especially amid growing concerns over political and digital thuggery.

In their goodwill messages, Alhaji Saleh Danburam of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, Abdulaziz Sani Labaran of Youth O’Clock, and Ibrahim Yusuf 3000 of the Civil Society Organisation, Gombe State, urged youths to exercise caution and responsibility in their activities.

They called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, government, civil society organisations, religious bodies and youth groups to achieve the objectives of the campaign.

Participants also held a group discussion on the causes and consequences of political and digital thuggery, as well as possible measures for addressing the challenges.

Questions and answers were also entertained, giving participants the opportunity to seek clarification, share their experiences and engage the speakers on issues surrounding political violence, responsible use of social media and the role of youths in promoting peace and security.

The campaign marks the commencement of the national drive against political and digital thuggery in Nigeria, with stakeholders urging youths to reject violence, avoid the misuse of digital platforms and embrace responsible citizenship to protect peace, democracy and their future.
