A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Dan Amanan Fune Emirate of Yobe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, Ph.D., has congratulated his Director of Communications and Strategy, Mallam Abdulrahman Aliagan, on his re-election as President of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ).
Ajia, in a congratulatory message issued to mark Aliagan’s victory, described the re-election as a recognition of his professionalism, integrity, diligence and sustained contribution to the journalism profession in Nigeria.
He said Aliagan’s emergence for a second tenure reflected the confidence members of the Guild reposed in his leadership and his capacity to advance the frontiers of investigative journalism.
The APC chieftain, who is also a businessman and security expert, said the responsibility accompanying Aliagan’s renewed mandate was particularly significant at a time when credible information, professional journalism and institutional accountability remain critical to Nigeria’s democratic development.
“Your re-election at this critical time comes with huge responsibility to deepen investigative journalism, promote truth, and hold power accountable,” Ajia said.
He urged the NGIJ President to deploy his experience and leadership capacity toward further strengthening the Guild as a professional platform for investigative journalists and a credible voice in matters of public interest.
Ajia expressed confidence that Aliagan would bring his wealth of experience, patriotism and commitment to public-interest journalism to bear on the Guild’s next phase.
“I have no doubt that you will bring your wealth of experience, patriotism and leadership to reposition the Guild for greater impact,” he said.
He described Aliagan’s victory as a source of personal pride, noting that his re-election represented not only a professional milestone for the NGIJ President but also an opportunity to deepen his contribution to journalism and national development.
“I am proud of you,” Ajia said, while praying that Almighty Allah would grant Aliagan greater wisdom, good health and the strength required for a successful second tenure.
He further called on stakeholders in the media industry to support efforts aimed at strengthening investigative journalism, particularly journalism that promotes truth, transparency, accountability and responsible governance.
Ajia’s congratulatory message adds to the growing recognition of Aliagan’s return to the leadership of the NGIJ following the Guild’s recent election, in which he secured a second tenure as National President.
Aliagan, a veteran journalist and publisher, has continued to champion investigative and public-interest journalism, with emphasis on evidence-based reporting, accountability and institutional strengthening.
His re-election ushers in another phase for the Guild, with expectations of consolidating its professional structures, expanding investigative journalism initiatives and strengthening its contribution to national discourse.
Ajia, in his message, urged Aliagan to see the new mandate not merely as an honour but as a call to greater service, responsibility and professional excellence.
He concluded by wishing the NGIJ President a successful tenure and praying for continued guidance and protection for him and the Guild under his leadership.
