Akume Advances Digital, Grassroots Mobilisation for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

Senator (Dr.) George Akume, CON, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), is strengthening efforts to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda through digital mobilisation, strategic communication and structured grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akume, a former governor of Benue State and three-term senator, brings decades of administrative and political experience to the mobilisation drive aimed at consolidating support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

A retired civil servant who rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary before voluntarily leaving the service in 1998, Akume has held several key positions in public service, including Governor of Benue State from 1999 to 2007, Senator representing Benue North-West from 2007 to 2019, and Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs between 2019 and 2023.

Since his appointment as SGF in June 2023, he has continued to play a significant role in coordinating government affairs and supporting the implementation of the administration’s policy priorities.

Drawing on his institutional experience and political networks, Akume is promoting a mobilisation strategy that combines digital communication with organised engagement at the ward, local government and polling-unit levels.

The strategy seeks to leverage technology, data and coordinated communication platforms to improve voter education, disseminate information on government programmes and strengthen connections between political support groups and citizens.

Alongside digital mobilisation, Akume is reinforcing grassroots structures through regional, state and local coordination, with emphasis on engaging women, youths, community mobilisers and support groups.

The initiative also promotes regional inclusivity by tailoring mobilisation messages and engagement strategies to the unique political, social and economic realities of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Within this framework, Akume has facilitated the political advocacy and mobilisation efforts of Ambassador Musa Mohammed Tsoken, National Coordinator of the Asiwaju Again Renewed Hope Support Initiative 2027.

Tsoken has sustained advocacy for good governance and the Renewed Hope Agenda through television engagements, newspaper publications and the development of strategic economic policy documents in collaboration with academics and experts in economics, security and social sciences.

The advocacy is aimed at promoting policy awareness, strengthening public engagement and building sustained support for the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 elections.

The emerging mobilisation framework rests on three key pillars: digital mobilisation, regional inclusivity and grassroots deepening.

Digital mobilisation focuses on voter education, support-group registration and the systematic dissemination of information on the administration’s policies and achievements.

Regional inclusivity seeks to ensure that mobilisation messages reflect the aspirations and circumstances of different geopolitical zones, while grassroots deepening prioritises the active participation of local mobilisers, women, youths and community-based support groups.

The strategy underscores the growing importance of combining technology with traditional political structures in building an effective and coordinated electoral mobilisation network.

As political activities gradually intensify ahead of 2027, Akume’s approach is expected to contribute to efforts to translate the Renewed Hope Agenda into greater public engagement and sustained grassroots support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
