Kwara NUJ polls: Harmony FM Secretary threatens to sue Akeem Garuba, others for impersonation

1 Mins read

The Secretary, Harmony FM Chapel of Kwara State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mrs Misstura Tolani, has threatened to file a law suit against Abdulhakeem Garuba, the Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ and others for impersonating her during an illegal emergency congress of the council held in Ilorin on Friday.
The purported emergency congress held ahead of the forthcoming State Triennial Delegates’ Conference also known as election scheduled for July 13th, 2024 notwithstanding that the state Credential Screening Committee has been rolling out activities preparatory to the election.
It was learnt that Abdulhakeem Garuba and others had appended their signatures on an invitation calling for an emergency congress of the council without the directive of the council Chairman, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed and members of the State Working Committee.
The unauthorized congress, which Garuba presided over, had caused ripples with some members accusing him of an unholy move to usurp the power of the State Working Committee and destabilize the state NUJ.
In a strongly worded statement titled “Warning” after sighting her names as one of those who signed the invitation for the purported congress, Mrs Tolani said her consent was not sought and wondered why she was included as a signatory to the invitation.
The Harmony FM Secretary warned those who included her name to desist or risk legal action.
“Please, count me out of this shenanigan. I was never consulted and my consent was never sought before my name was included.
“Those behind this ulterior and anti progressive move should desist or we meet in court for impersonation. A word should be enough for the wise”, she said.
Similarly, the Chairman of Harmony FM Chapel of Kwara NUJ, Abdullahi Ahmed, also denied being a signatory to the communique issued at the end of the kangaroo congress.
He told those behind the purported congress to remove his name as he was never party to it.
“Going through this communique and seeing my name as one of the signatories took me by surprise as I wasn’t at the meeting. As such, I want you to please delete my name from this communique. Thanks”, Ahmed said.
It was also learnt that the consent of the Secretary, Herald Chapel of NUJ, Zakari Suleiman, was also not sought before the inclusion of his name in the communique issued at the end of the illegal congress.
