Renowned Islamic scholar, Shaikh Dr Yusuf Kolawole Jumuah, has called on Muslims and leaders to fear Allah and remain mindful of the Day of Judgment, emphasising accountability for one’s actions.
Speaking at the Ramadan lecture on Tefsir Quran organised by the Islamic Welfare Foundation (IWF) in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, Shaikh Jumuah stressed the importance of leading a righteous life in accordance with Islamic principles.
“It is unfortunate that some Muslims and politicians do not believe in the Day of Judgment, which leads them to disregarding accountability for their actions. Some leaders mistreat their subordinates and exploit those they govern,” he lamented.
He highlighted the dire consequences of such actions, noting that many people suffer due to a lack of access to basic necessities, such as healthcare. He also pointed out the increasing hardship caused by the rising cost of living.
“Approximately 99% of vehicle owners struggle to afford fuel, exacerbating the already high cost of living. The ripple effect has led to soaring prices of food and essential commodities, worsening the plight of the masses,” he added.
Shaikh Jumuah urged Muslim leaders to lead by example, demonstrating compassion, justice, and integrity in both their personal and public lives. He also called on professionals, including lawyers, journalists, and Islamic scholars, to uphold moral accountability.
“Fearing Allah is the foundation of our faith. We must remember that our actions have consequences, not only in this life but also in the Hereafter,” he cautioned.
The Tefsir Quran session was well-attended by Muslims from different parts of the state. Among the notable attendees were Dan Madami of Ilorin, Alhaji Shehu Gafar; Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), Professor Ola-Olu Yusuf Ali, Adelodun Adebayo, and Kehinde Eleja; the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulwahab Egbewole; the State Coordinator of IWF Kwara Chapter, Hon. Is’hak Muhammed Sabi; and the National Coordinator of IWF, Dr Kalejaye.
The Islamic Welfare Foundation (IWF) is a non-profit organisation committed to promoting Islamic education, welfare, and community development. The foundation continues to play a significant role in enhancing religious enlightenment and societal progress.
