President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Nigerian Army for their critical role in ensuring the safety of personnel, equipment, and infrastructure along the ongoing Illela–Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway Project.
This was disclosed by the Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, during an operational visit to the Forward Operations Base Laager in Kebbi State on Thursday, May 8, 2025. The base is tasked with providing security for the multi-billion-naira road project which cuts across major northern and southern corridors.
The Minister, addressing the troops, conveyed President Tinubu’s deep appreciation for their dedication and sacrifices. “You know how important this road is, and you know how critical this mission is. That is why the President asked me to come here—to see you and to personally appreciate the great work you are doing,” he told the soldiers.
Badaru emphasized that the highway project forms a strategic pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration. The 1,000+ km superhighway is designed to boost trade, reduce travel time, and link key economic zones between Sokoto and Lagos, ultimately transforming national transportation and logistics.
He described the project as a “game-changer” that will not only enhance mobility but also create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, strengthen regional economies, and improve national cohesion.
The Defence Minister’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to both infrastructure development and the security of lives and property, especially in areas where economic projects intersect with security challenges.
