ICAN Port Harcourt District Honours Oyewole Oyelola, FCA, for Excellence, Integrity and Outstanding Service to the Accounting Profession

Rivers State has been in the news for months due to the political cold war between Governor Sim Fubara and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. However, the oil rich state is in the news for good reason as Port Harcourt District Society of Institute of Chartered Accountants and Nigeria (ICAN) honored Oyewole Oyelola FCA and other members for their contributions to the accounting profession in Nigeria.

The award presentation held on December 13, 2025 at the Ark Events Centre, opposite Bori Camp, Rumuola, Port Harcourt with ICAN Council member, Captains of Industries, friends, families and well wishers in attendance.

In a letter jointly signed by Chairman and Secretary of Award and Gala Committee, Mr. Stephen Uriri, FCA and Dr. Georgewill Ain a letter described Oyelola’s recognition as a resounding testament to his unwavering dedication, integrity and exceptional contribution in the accounting profession and ICAN District Society.

His words: “Your steady rise and outstanding achievements in your career have continued to inspire a new generation of accountants. You have exemplified excellence in leadership, professionalism, and service- qualities that mirror ideals of our noble Institute. Through your numerous contributions, you have strengthened the visibility and impact of ICAN Port Harcourt District, earning the admiration and respect of members and contemporaries alike.

“Your name has become synonymous with diligence, ethical conduct, and purposeful mentorship – a beacon of what every Chartered Accountant should aspire to be. Indeed, the district and the profession at large are proud of you, and this recognition is a fitting tribute to your enviable record of accomplishments.”

The Awardee attended the event with his lovely wife, Modupe Oyelola, office colleagues and numerous friends. He hails from a royal family in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Indeed, the impressive profile of Oyewole Oyelola further affirmed his good character and knack for excellence without compromising integrity, the hallmark of the accounting profession. He studied Accountancy at the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti. His love for the accounting profession propelled him to burn candles and stretched himself to raise funds for writing thorough, strict and rigorous qualifying examinations of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to be a member over three decades ago.

The Institute later inducted into the prestigious fellow cadre in 2015. He is also an Alumnus of Lagos Business School. Oyelola is also a member of reputable professional organisations such as Chartered Institute of Taxation, Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN) and a registered professional with Financial Reporting Council (FRC) of Nigeria.

His professional career over three decades ago while he served at top financial positions in different high rated organisations including Promassidor (maker of cowbell beverages), ED & F MAN (Nig) Ltd, DEL Waste Management Ltd | Onne Oil & Gas Free Zone and Ocean Marine Solutions Limited. He is currently the General Manager (Finance and Accounts), Ocean Marine Solutions Limited, a private maritime security company.

He is a thorough bred Chartered Accountant with cross sectorial experience. He has a rich repertoire of skills varying from ability to effectively leverage on technology to perform accounting functions to possessing valuable experience in people management. Oyelola has displayed a high level of discipline, honesty and integrity in discharging his responsibilities.

He previously served two-term Financial Secretary of Port Harcourt District and member of Investigative Panel at national level. He has also provided mentorship for many young Accountants.

It’s therefore not surprising when the Chairperson of ICAN Port Harcourt District, Mrs. Ngozi Umelo-Agbai PhD described Awardees as good Ambassadors of the Institute.

While appreciating ICAN, the Senior brother of the Awardees and Principal Partner of Oyelola Associates, Prince Oyetunde Oyelola said : “This award is deserving, especially coming from professional colleagues who have monitored your delivery in the accounting profession. Today is heralding greater opportunities cum national recognition that would be bestowed on you in the coming years.
