Encomiums, Accolades, as Professor Izam Laid to Rest

There is time for everything,and a season for every activity under heaven . A time to be born and a time to die,a time to plant and a time to uproot. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2.

This was the consolation and tributes for the Late Prof. Yohana Daniel Izam,as his Corpse was laid to final rest. It was hectic moment in Jos especially for the ECWA Plateau Church,Tere Community of Fursum District in Jos East local government area,as they overwhelmed with people all over the walks of life that trooped in to pay their last rest to an Irroko Tree, Hero,Mentor,A Teacher and a Community Leader.

Late Professor Yohana Daniel Izam,who passed away on the 19th of January, 2026. His sudden death came as a rude shock to so many people. Izam was a staff of the University of Jos, he was an academician per excellence,a builder of highest repute.

He had mentored thousands of Youths within and outside Plateau State. He was a stalwart of the All progressives Congress (APC), Plateau State Chapter.

His Corpse left Jos University Teaching Hospital Permanent Site as early as 8Am to ECWA Plateau Church,Katon Rikkos,in Jos North Local Government area for funeral service where thousands of sympathisers, family members,colleagues gathered to pay their last respect.

Among those in attendance, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State,who was represented by the Deputy Governor,Josephine Piyo, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly,Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel,The Deputy Speaker,Rt. Hon. Isa Ajiji,House of Representatives Member, representing Jos East/Jos South Federal Constituency, Honourable Alfred Ajang, other members of the State House of Assembly,local Government Chairmen,Former speakers,His Royal Majesty,Agbang Agwom Afizere,Rev. Dr. Isaac Azi Wakili,The Ujah of Anaguta,His Royal Majesty Pozho Johnson Magaji,Adagwom Jos Izere Chiefdom,HRH,Ada Emmanuel Ajik and other Traditional Rulers.

Other Government officials includes the Commissioners and other political appointees.

The Vice Chancellor,Plateau State University Bokkos, management,Staff and Students,the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos,led by the Vice Chancellor,Professor Tanko Ishaya and the Entire University Community.

In his Homily,the Leading Pastor of the Church,Rev.Ray Chukura, took his text from the Book of James 4:13-17 and challenges believers to live a pure life and stop bragging and boasting because it is evil.

Late Prof.Daniel Izam was born on January 13th 1967,he hailed from Tere in Fursum District,Jos East LGA of Plateau State. He was the fifth born of eight children to the family of Ada Daniel Makeri Izam and Ango Tabitha Izam.

His Academic journey reflected excellence from its earliest stages. He started his formal education at Bunga Primary school,Mangu and Completed in 1978.

He proceeded to St. John’s College,Jos, between 1978 and 1983. In 1987,late Izam obtained Bachelor of Science in Building from University of Jos.

Followed by Masters degree in Construction Technology from the University of Lagos in the year 1990.

He bagged his PhD in Construction Management From the University of Jos in 2008.

He was a member of the Governing Council, and Vice Chancellor, Plateau State University,Pioneer Provost, College of art, Science and Remedial Studies,Former Commissioner for Transportation,Head of Department of Building and Deputy Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Jos among several other responsibilities and leadership. Izam was a title holder of various Communities in Plateau State.

Left to mourn him are: Pharm. Yocy Yohana Izam, Wife Paul, Shaphan and Samuel Izam,Sons, Mrs Bilyaminu Azi Gwom, Sister. Mr. Yusuf D. Izam, Brother, Mrs Helen Yunana, Sister, Dr. Anna John Izang,Sister, Dr. Elkana D. Izam, Brother.
