
Motorists have been urged to always take precautionary measures towards the rush hours associated with the ember- months.
Kogi State Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers ( NURTW), Comrade Opoola Nurudeen Olabisi gave the advice while speaking with news men in Lokoja.
Comrade Olabisi said it is the habit of the Union to sensitize road users on the need to exercise caution during the ember-months due to activities resulting into traveling and more flow of vehicles.
He urged commuters to be more careful and avoid risks that can lead to road mishaps.
The Secretary called for strict compliance to safety codes by avoiding overspending, use of safety belts and thorough assessment of vehicles to make sure they are road worthy.
He also warmed against the risk of overstretching one’s ability to meet up with deadlines and goals to be achieved.
Comrade Olabisi said the union in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will at the end of this month embark on public sensitisation towards achieving safety on roads during the months.
Similarly, state Chairman of the Tricycles Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Comrade Ahmed Sadique, said the Union has a stand by traffic officers to checkmate the activities of members in terms of safety and compliance to traffic rules.
He also hinted the preparation towards the ember -months camping with other stakeholders in the transport sector.
He said Vehicle Inspector Officers in the past presented Award to TOAN for her contributions towards maintaining decorum on the road emphasizing that on several occasions his members have assisted his dislodging traffic grid locks when ever the occasion demands.
While tanking Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for creating the enabling environment for the transport sector, the unionist urged numbers to be law abiding all the times.
