Governor Ododo Pledges Action on Teachers’ Welfare, Service Delivery Demands in Kogi

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has promised to look into the demands of labour organisations and grant approval to areas of interest in both welfarism and service delivery.

Governor Ododo gave the assurance in a message to this years’ celebration of World Teachers’ Day held at the NUT Guest House in Lokoja.

The Governor who was represented by the Director of Protocol, Government House, Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman, said the roles of teachers in character moulding and imparting knowledge cannot be over emphasized.

He congratulated teachers on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day assuring that the State will continue to recognize their efforts as the foundation of all economic growth.

In his welcome address, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Abayomi Ayoola expressed appreciation to the Governor for restoring dignity in teaching profession noting that , he will always be remembered as a true friend of teachers.

Comrade Ayoola emphasized that teachers’ morale have increased through the eradication of percentage salary payments, implementation of promotion with financial backing and payment of special bonus last year December.

The Unionist however called for massive recruitment of teachers saying over eight thousand teachers are needed to fill the gap created by death and retirement.

He also appealed for consideration of hundreds of members who were not cleared during screening exercise, particularly the 2010 set.

Also in his demands, the NUT Chairman called for the review of over three hundred teachers whose names were omitted from payroll apps well as those promoted without cash back.

He urged NUT members to continue to reciprocate the good gestures with corresponding devotion and commitment to improving the standard of education in the state.

Speaking on behalf of NUT National President, Comrade Titus Amba who was represented by the. State Secretary of the Union, Comrade Ibrahim Kadalla, urged them to remain optimistic despite challenges across the country.

In his paper presentation, Branch Chairman, Yagba East Local Government Area, Comrade Owolabi Babatunde who spoke on the theme; ‘standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures”, described teaching profession as a calling that determine the future of any society.

Present at the event were NLC Chairman, Comrade Gabriel Amari, Representative of SUBEB Chairman Abdulrazak Mohammed Yusuf, the immediate past Chairman of NUT, Comrade Dauda Yakubu among others.:
