Kwara has been recognised as one of the states leading climate governance in Nigeria.
Ranked 5th in a shortlist of just 12 states, Kwara’s performance on climate governance was rated 84.85%, underscoring once again the commendable leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The rating is contained in a report by Statisense dated October 2026.
Katsina State emerged at the top position with 96.97%, but Kwara notably led the chart for the North Central region.
Since Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq assumed office in 2019, there has been renewed commitment of government to environmental sustainability as well as climate resilience and governance.
Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, is recognised as one of the cleanest cities in the country, with state authorities constantly monitoring environmental activities including the clearing of drainages and canals to manage flooding issues.
The state has also built green gardens, embarked on ambitious tree planting initiatives, and water interventions to strengthen resilience against droughts and other climate challenges.
This recognition reaffirmed Kwara as one of the model states for climate governance and environmental sustainability in the country.
