NSCDC CG Tasks Personnel on Strict Adherence to Rules of Engagement Ahead of 2027 General Elections

1 Mins read

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Audi Ahmed Abubakar mni, OFR, has charged officers of the Corps to embrace neutrality, professionalism and thoroughness as the country enters the general election season in 2027. He urged them to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy and ensure hitch-free elections by providing adequate security for electoral materials, electoral umpires and other critical stakeholders.

Professor Audi made this remark on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the Corps headquarters in Abuja while declaring open a three-day workshop for 216 officers and men drawn from the 36 State Commands, the Federal Capital Territory and 18 Zonal Commands. The participants were specially being trained on election matters alongside other critical stakeholders.

The CG noted that the Corps will not give room for laxity in the upcoming election, which is why it is taking time to train officers on the need to be vigilant and their ability to deescalate situations without using force or how to use force when the need arises.

During his remarks, he vehemently warned against voter intimidation, abuse of citizens, abandonment of duty posts and obedience to unlawful orders, stressing that national interest must remain paramount. He emphasized the need to ensure a smooth election and understand the legal framework, operational procedures, intelligence gathering and integration with sister agencies in ensuring free and fair elections.

“We must not wait till Election Day to familiarize ourselves with electoral rules. The rules of engagement help officers to protect the process, citizens and defend the democracy that we are currently enjoying,” he said.

The workshop, organized in collaboration with Alnas Consulting Limited, is themed “Role of Security Agencies in the Conduct of the General Elections in Nigeria: Legal, Field Conduct, Supervisory and Operational Perspectives.”

In his welcome address, the Chief Responsibility Officer of Alnas Consulting Limited, Prof. Nasirdeen Usman, mni, described the Corps as a critical component of Nigeria’s security architecture and urged participants to cascade the knowledge gained to other personnel.

The event also featured goodwill messages from representatives of the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, the Controller-General of Corrections, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Chief Executive Officer of TAF Africa, Ambassador Dr. Jake Ekpelle.

As the nation approaches 2027, the NSCDC reaffirms its commitment to peaceful elections, inter-agency synergy, and the protection of every Nigerian’s democratic rights.
