Nigeria Has the Highest Record of Out of School Children – Global Rights

The Country Director of the Global Rights in Nigeria, Abiodun Baiyewu-Teru has revealed that Nigeria has the highest number of out of school children globally following the wreck of Boko Haram in the country.

 

She said this at the Young Journalist Forum (YJF) event in Abuja. According to the Global Rights Country Director “one of every ten boy is sexually violated before the age of 18 while four out of every ten girl is sexually violated before the age of 18 in the country.”

 

According to the Federal Ministry of Education Nigeria contribute 10.5 million out of school children to the global data of 20 million.

 

Baiyewu-Teru lamented that the country lacks institutions that protects children. He then challenged the leaders at all levels across the country to be concerned about the country they handover t the next generation.

 

She pointed out that the institutions in the country are structured to make young people poor, remain poor and born into poverty. “The ways our institutions are structured, young people are poor and more would be born into poverty”.

 

Speaking earlier, the Ambassador of Ecuador Leopoldo Rovayo Verdesoto to Nigeria, said the embassy have been involved in showcasing the positive sides of Nigeria. He said that Nigeria is blessed with talents and opportunities an there are no need to look outside for assistance or help.
