A human rights activist and Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman has urged President Muhammadu to remove the current Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris from office now, saying that Mr. Idris lacks moral and democratic right  to continue in office as nation’s Police boss.

However, the rights activist also thrown weight behind the Wednesday resolution of the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, passing vote of no confidence on IGP Idris that he was “unfit to hold public office” in a democratic setting for deliberately not honouring the invitation of the Senate on three occasions without tangible reasons.

He strongly condemned the action of the Police helmsman for poking finger into the eyes of the second arms of government, describing his (Idris) action as undemocratic, anathema, unconstitutional, illegal, satanic and uncalled for, adding that Idris has shown total disrespect, as enemy of democracy, to one of the strong pillars of the country’s democracy.

This was contained in a statement issued after Comrade Sulaiman appeared on a “Live Programme” at SaharareporterTV in Lagos on Thursday and copies of the statement were made available to newsmen, he maintained that all the lovers of Nigeria democracy should rise up to condemn the action of IGP Idris, adding that “if Idris is not being curtailed now by paying for his misdeed, it may be an open gate to continue disrespect for the strong pillar of our hard earned democracy”.

According to him; “Mr. Ibrahim Idris has brought great stigma into the Legislative arm of Nigeria and President Buhari should not treat this action with levity hand by not hesitating to remove Mr. Idris from office with immediate effect because he has overstayed his time in the office as Inspector General of Police (IGP). The sanctity of the lawmaking organ of the country should be protected by all and sundry.

“For disrespecting the National Assembly by the IGP Ibrahim Idris, Nigeria democracy has been at lower ebb among the democratic nations of the world and this singular action of IGP should not be allowed to be swept under the carpet by the Executive arm of government under President Muhammadu Buhari. Serious democratic action should be taken against Idris by the constituted authority in the land”.

Sulaiman insisted that Idris still remains the one of the enemies of Nigeria democracy and its actors and if they failed to end his tenure as head of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) abruptly, he might end the peaceful co-existence of the country abruptly , recalling that the Police under Idris watch were recently dissipating energy on the law abiding citizen and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West Senatorial district over political interest in Kogi State.

CHRSJ boss further stressed that Senate has power to remove President and any of his appointee in accordance with the sections 62,88,89,143,153,214 &216  of the amended 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, adding  that IGP Idris deserved to be removed over indecent assault of female Police officer which attracted over three(3) years imprisonment.
