COAS plans low-key Army Day celebration for Attahiru, 10 others

1 Mins read

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Faruk Yahaya, has said this year’s Nigerian Army Day celebration would be low-key following the death of his predecessor, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 other officers in an air mishap on May 21, 2021 at the Kaduna International Airport.

The military chief made the disclosure while briefing questions from Defence correspondents at the Army Headquarters in Abuja yesterday.

The yearly celebration holds every July 6 to honour members, especially those that took part in the World War I and II, as well as those that died during the Nigerian civil war.

“The week-long annual event lined up to commemorate NADCEL 2021 will be used to reflect on the performance of the Nigerian Army and celebrate our achievements, as well as project the military as an important symbol of national power, unity, integration and development,” the COAS stated.
