The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ibadan zone, comprising of University of Ibadan, LAUTECH, Unilorin, Kwasu and Uniosun hereby calls the attention of the public and government to the unfortunate trend of decreasing salary releases to our public universities.

According to the Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Ade Adejumo said the ugly trend which started since December, 2015 has occasioned payment of truncated salaries to our members who have rendered hundred percentage of duties in the universities.

“For example, the university of Ibadan in the last two months has received drastically reduced salaries as a result of this inexplicable trend of incomplete subvention from the Federal government”, he stated.

The zone therefore called on people of goodwill and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to urgently intervene before the nation is thrown into another round of unnecessary crisis in the education sector.

The Zone also called on the state governments within the zone to live up to their funding responsibilities to their universities.

The call according to the affected workers became necessary against the backdrop of events in LAUTECH where Oyo and Osun states have demonstrated astonishing lack of commitment to the funding requirements of the institution.

“If the situation persists our members will be left with no choice but to resume their suspended action even in the midst of the on-going examination”, he warned.

On the recent revelations of monumental fraud and mind bugging nepotistic manipulations going on at the University of Ilorin which vindicate our petitions to the anti-graft agencies, the Zonal ASUU urged the Federal Government to show more than a passing interest in probing the activities of the past and present administrations of the university.

“This is very important given the present government’s avowed zero tolerance for corruption”, ‎it added.
