African Bar honours Jonathan, Sirleaf, others

The African Bar Association (AFBA) is set to honour former presidents, Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria, Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and Mr. Ernest Koroma of Sierra Leone as African good governance ambassadors at its yearly conference in Niamey, Niger Republic.

Speaking on the theme of the 2021 conference, titled: ‘Accountable Governance as a panacea for unending conflicts in Africa; The Legal Profession as the driver’, the President of the Association, Hannibal Uwaifo said, the conversations will be epochal.

According to him, the attendance will be asset determined and its networking value unmatched.

“Africa’s peers will gather to insist, that leadership in our countries must constantly self evaluate to deepen accountable governance and the rule of law, as a more prosperous standard of growth and development,” he said.

Uwaifo disclosed that the conference, which holds between October 3 and 7, 2021 at the Scenics Hospitality monument, Mahatma Ghandi International Conference Centre, Niamey, will bring together high-end experts and participants from all arms of government, academia, security and business policymakers.

Others, he said include influencers with global reputations, who will discuss and proffer actionable solutions to myriads of challenges facing the continent. 

The president of the Niger Republic, Mohammed Bazoun has affirmed his seal as a Special guest as well as his predecessor, Mr Mohamadou Issoffou, who won the Mo Ibrahim Prize for Leadership. 

The keynote address will be delivered by, Nobel Laureate, Dr Dennis Mukwege of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
