Ajia Commiserates with Ilorin Emirate, Kwara Over Death of Prof. Yusuf Lanre Badmus

Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, Ph.D, the Dan Amanan Fune Emirate of Yobe State and Nwanne Ukwu Di Na Mba of Amaba-Ukwu Item, Abia State, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned Islamic scholar and community leader, Professor Yusuf Lanre Badmus, who died yesterday after a brief illness.

In a condolence message signed by the Director of Communications to Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, Mallam Abdulrahman Aliagan, and made available to journalists in Abuja.

According to the statement,  “Alhaji Ajia extended heartfelt sympathies to the Chairman, Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers and Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Government of Kwara State, the Ilorin Emirate Development Progressive Union (IEDPU), sons and daughters of Ilorin Emirate at home and in the diaspora, the Muslim community of the University of Ilorin, and the entire Muslim Ummah in Kwara State, Nigeria and beyond.

The Dan Amanan Fune described the late Prof. Badmus as a towering figure in Islamic scholarship and public service, whose life was marked by unwavering devotion to faith, learning, and community development.

He noted that the deceased served with distinction as a Lecturer at the University of Ilorin, former Secretary to the National Hajj Commission, former Chairman of the Kwara State Pilgrims Board, former Provost of the College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin, and as the Founder and Chief Imam of the Hilal Crescent Centre, Ilorin.

“Professor Yusuf Lanre Badmus lived a life of purpose, humility, and service to Allah and humanity.”

“His contributions to Islamic education, pilgrimage administration, and community leadership have left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations” Ajia said.

He prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed scholar, asking Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and give comfort and fortitude to his family, students, and associates. Alhaji Ajia also urged Muslims to emulate Prof. Badmus’ exemplary leadership, commitment to Islamic scholarship, and steadfast pursuit of community development.

The statement further called on the Muslim Ummah to sustain the values of knowledge, unity, and service which the late scholar championed throughout his lifetime.

The late erudite scholar has been buried in accordance to Islamic rites today Saturday 31st, 2026.
