Anambra Polls: ZLP Candidate Tasks Voters to Shun Money Bags and Vote Credible Persons for Increased Development of Anambra-South

From Cyril Mbah, Abuja

Less than one month to the Anambra South Senatorial bye-election, the senatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) for Anambra South, Hon. Barr. Nnamdi Ezike MFR has called on the state electorate to shun unpopular but desperate politicians who are preparing to pay huge amounts of money for votes, warning that such candidates have nothing to offer the state and the people.

Barr. Ezike, who dumped the Young Peoples Party (YPP) recently and emerged as the Zenith Labour Party flag-bearer for Anambra South Senatorial District by-election coming up on August 16th, 2025 warned, in an exclusive interview in Abuja, that Anambra has suffered enough neglect from unproductive politicians that buy votes to enable them occupy positions without playing the roles attached to such posts or attracting development to the state as expected.

He urged the voting public to be careful not to fall into the trap of politicians, who will offer juicy financial inducements to voters knowing they are the wrong people for the job and pointing out that the upcoming National Assembly and governorship elections provide the people the opportunity to get it right to enable the state move ahead in development.

The right things to do now, Barr. Ezike said, ” is for the electorate to shun money bags and choose well by voting for the right people who have the capacity to attract Federal Government presence to the state by canvassing for more federal projects.

Barr. Ezike’s emergence as ZLP flag-bearer for the Anambra South Senatorial District sent shock waves through Anambra State’s political corridors especially among candidates of other political parties in the race who did not believe ZLP will produce a candidate before the polls.

The Senatorial candidate said that the Zenith Labour Party leadership has given him the full official support to win the polls and he has prepared extensively for the by-election set for 16th August, 2025 by taking the message of development to the people at the grassroots who are in dire need of good governance.
On his chances of winning the election, Ezike said: “My personal record as an honourable member of the House of Assembly will speak for me. Until now, nobody has been able to do more than what I did for the people especially the youth and women during my tenure.

“We distributed hundreds of motorcycles to the youths, trained several of them on skills and bought computers for them, and also purchased sewing machines for women. We embarked on many other empowerment programmes. We are in this election to win and not to count the numbers.

“What counts most in this type of off-season election is that people consider the candidates more than the political parties. My experience in legislative work will also be useful. Other candidates but one, haven’t been to the Legislature before and would not represent the people well in the Senate like I would do using my experience. The Senate is not for learners, but for people of cognate experience.

He advised the people of Anambra South especially to ask every candidate in the coming election what they have brought to the state in the past, adding that a politician’s past record can serve as proof for what the candidate can do for the people in the future.

While pointing out that Anambra South Senatorial District has been grossly marginalised over the years, Ezike promised to work tirelessly to reverse the trend when voted into office as the Senator representing the area adding that the constituency has experienced very poor representation in the National Assembly in the past.

“My constituency has experienced very poor representation in the National Assembly for so long, and this is what I want to change. I have the capacity and the connections both foreign and local to attract projects to the state when I win the election,” Ezike declared.
