The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lashed out at the newly formed opposition coalition, dismissing it as a gathering of self-serving politicians lacking direction and credibility.
In a strongly worded statement issued Thursday night, APC National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka, described the coalition’s unveiling under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, as a “gasping whimper,” contrary to the grand promises made by its promoters.
According to Morka, the coalition amounted to nothing more than “a coalition of hoaxers and self-obsessed merchants of vendetta — a roll call of Nigeria’s me-or-nothing politicians who equate their personal ambition with the national interest.”
He accused the coalition’s leaders of being desperate power seekers “who cannot bear to be out of the corridors of power and patronage,” and who “lay claim to an immoral birthright to leadership despite their odious record of betrayal of public trust and rapacious public service.”
Morka specifically targeted Senator David Mark, who chaired the coalition’s unveiling as the presumed National Chairman of the ADC, describing his speech as “disgracefully vacant, without substance or purpose — just a string of untruths, diatribe, and recycled allegations against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.”
“From start to finish, Senator Mark offered no vision or policy framework for Nigerians — only a loud declaration of desperation for power,” Morka said.
He challenged the coalition to articulate alternative policy positions or ideological underpinnings beyond its “obsessive craving for power by all means necessary and unnecessary.”
Continuing, the APC spokesman said: “The coalition’s silence on issues of governance, economic recovery, and national development is proof of their cluelessness and lack of concern for Nigerians. They underestimate the political sophistication of Nigerians, who are both perceptive and discerning.”
Highlighting the achievements of the Tinubu-led administration, the statement pointed to several economic and social reforms, including: GDP growth of 3.4%, Increase in external reserves from $4 billion in 2023 to over $24 billion in 2024, Clearance of forex debt backlog and CBN Ways and Means liabilities, Drop in debt service-to-revenue ratio from 99% to 40%, Inflation decline from 31% in 2024 to 22% in 2025 and Falling prices of basic commodities and improved farmer incomes
The APC also cited successes in oil exports, trade surplus, exchange rate stability, increased revenue allocations to subnational governments, expanded access to student loans, and steady academic calendars. Other noted achievements included investments in infrastructure, healthcare, security (with nearly 40,000 terrorists neutralized or arrested), and implementation of a new minimum wage alongside broader social investment programs.
“In spite of these strides, opposition elements remain consumed by bitterness and vendetta, unwilling to acknowledge progress,” the statement read.
While accusing the coalition of “swimming in mud and throwing bricks,” Morka affirmed that “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC remain focused on using all available bricks to build a stronger, enduring, and more prosperous nation for present and future generations.”
