The APC-Initiative for Good Governance (APC-IGG) has congratulated former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Almakura, on his recent appointment as the Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), describing it as a well-deserved and visionary choice by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

In a congratulatory message personally signed by the National President of APC-IGG, Ambassador Musa Muhammed Tsoken, the group praised President Tinubu for entrusting such a crucial national assignment to a seasoned leader like Almakura, whose track record of integrity, service, and developmental strides speak volumes.

Ambassador Tsoken recalled the political journey of both himself and Almakura during their days in the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), highlighting the former governor’s unique role as the only CPC Governor elected in 2011 and a key figure in the historic merger that birthed the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“This appointment is not just a reward for your unwavering loyalty to the progressive cause, but a recognition of your competence, leadership acumen, and enduring commitment to national development,” the statement read.

The APC-IGG emphasized that Almakura’s vast political and administrative experience will bring about a new era in the operations and impact of UBEC, helping to drive the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, particularly in the basic education sector.

“UBEC under your guidance will no doubt experience a new wave of structural reform, strategic redirection, and people-centered transformation,” Ambassador Tsoken stated. “We strongly believe that your tenure will redefine the Commission’s purpose, delivering tangible educational change that will benefit generations of Nigerian children.”

The group urged Almakura to leverage his passion for inclusive governance and grassroots empowerment in steering UBEC towards addressing the challenges in basic education, improving infrastructure, ensuring accountability, and fostering equitable access to quality education nationwide.

“We at APC-IGG are proud of your achievements and confident in your capacity to deliver. Your leadership will inspire renewed confidence in public service and education management,” the group added.

Once again, the APC-IGG extends its heartfelt congratulations to Senator Umaru Tanko Almakura and pledges its continued support for the advancement of good governance and progressive leadership in Nigeria.
