Buhari’s Death: Plain Lies and Baseless – Garba Shehu

By Time Nigeria

In a swift response to the Ex-British Lawmaker and a former military officer, Eric Stuart Joyce’s claim, who pronounced the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhrai dead in a condolence message, the Senior Special Assistant to President on Media and Publicity, Dr Garba Shehu has told Nigerians to disregard the news, saying, “it is a plain lies and baseless.”

Eric Joyce wrote in a tweet, “Very sad to learn, hear of the death of President Buhari, who I campaigned for. Thoughts with his wife @AishaBuhari and family.”

Garba Shehu dispels the rumour in a series of tweets stating the true position of the situation of the president who is in London for medical attention.

According to President’s Spokesperson, he said the information revealed by British politician Eric Joyce that Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is dead is not true.

“The information is plain lies spread by vested interests to create panic. Baseless rumors are trending again that an unpleasant thing has happened to our beloved President, Muhammadu Buhari.

He added that, if you have received this information on WhatsApp or Facebook, disregard it because it is plain lies spread by vested interests to create panic. “Nothing unpleasant has happened to the President. No cause for apprehension. Thanks for the many calls,” Shehu said.

Nigerians have been criticising Joyce for allegedly carrying what is considered false news about the country’s president.

In his reaction, the British politician posted on his blog: “First, if you’re a president then it’s up to you to show people you’re alive and well – it’s not up to your people to prove the opposite.

Every politician in the world knows this. A statement from a PR guy doesn’t cut it. Angry ripostes from supporters don’t cut it. Only your personal appearance cuts it.

It would be recalled sometimes last week; in a two minutes, 20 seconds video recorded post,  the Co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group, Aisha Yesufu added her voice, advising President Buhari to resign, she equally asked the National Assembly to impeach President if he fails to do so.
