Businessmen, Northern coalition support Osinbajo for 2023 Presidency

1 Mins read

A group, Businessmen For Osinbajo (BFO), has asked Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to join the 2023 Presidential race.

The appeal came as Osinbajo’s campaign posters and billboards flooded parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

In a statement, yesterday, the group said its members have commenced plans to raise funds to actualise their push for Osinbajo to become Nigeria’s next President.

Convener of the group, Dr. Tayo FashogbonOsinbajo, said: “He (Osinbajo) is a patriotic and detribalised Nigerian, who will commit himself to working for everyone. He is the only one who holds such a promise among other Nigerians vying for the plum job. The imperative for a President who is totally devoid of sectional interests has never been so paramount.

“These are the reasons more and more well-meaning Nigerians are coming out daily to invest in ‘Project Osinbajo’. This is also why, for the first time, businessmen in the country have decided not to leave politics to politicians alone but are ready to be fully involved in the political destiny of our country.”

Co-convener, Mr. Tunji David, said Osinbajo is entrepreneurially minded, noting that the business community in Nigeria can count on him.

“With him as President, we are confident that businesses in Nigeria will thrive. He is the missing link the business community in Nigeria needs at this moment,” he said.

ALSO, Arewa Consensus Assembly, in collaboration with Joint Participation for Development Initiative and National Partnership Campaign Project, has expressed support for an Osinbajo Presidency.

“After considering the religious demography of Nigeria, sentiments, views and opinions across the country, (we) recommend that a more probable ticket will be a Christian Southwestern candidate, matched with a Muslim Vice President from the North,” the coalition said in a communique issued at the end of a conference on Northern political participation and power shift, themed: ‘Northern Agenda: Our Real Solution’.

“The joint conference notes that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo fits and addresses questions of balance, qualities and attributes,” the coalition said.

It also warned political parties against fielding Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates of the same religion.
