  • Promises Improved Teachers’  Welfare 

The newly elected Chairman of the State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Abayomi Ayoola has promised to consolidate on part achievements of his predecessor and open fresh ground for further advancement of the Union.Caption.

Comrade Ayoola who gave the assurance in an interview with newsmen in Lokoja thanked previous leaders of the Union for giving their support for his victory emphasizing that the Union, with huge population on her side has what it takes to set agenda for a progressive society.

He thanked Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his special consideration to all categories of workers and pensioners as well as his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu Oyibo who he described as a piller of the Union.

The Chairman said the Union will work in line with the vision of his predecessor, Comrade Yakubu Dauda by ensuring unity within the Excos and members, improvement of members’ welfare through collaborative efforts with SUBEB and ministry of education as well as promotion of quality education.

His words ” Comrade Yakubu Dauda my predecessor is a wonderful leader with notable results. He is the first in the history of the union to marshall resources to cater for teachers with health challenges across the state. He also facilitate the payment of gratuity for retired secretariat workers . It is also a credit to him for the smooth conduct of the delegates congress. Both the Governor and his Deputy have been supportive, I can boastfully say over fifty percent of teachers problems have been solved.”

While rating Governor Ododo’s performance, the Unionist who described the Governor as a God ordained leader emphasized that he had fulfilled eight out of ten promises he gave the Union during the electioneering campaign.

He also maintained that a committee has been set up for the actualisation of the remaining two which bothers on the review of uncleared teachers during the screening exercise and accommodations for members of the Union.

On security issues, the Union leader who described teachers as a mother of all profession urged members to inculcate security tips in their daily activities.

He also advised for strict compliance to state directive on operational hours in schools and other academic settings.
