The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Asa/Ilorin-West Federal Constituency in the just concluded general election, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia has called for strengthening of democracy and democratic institutions in Nigeria.

Ajia stated this in a statement issued on Democracy Day, in Abuja by his Director of Communications, Malam Abdulrahman Aliagan.

Ajia, while congratulating Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day, called on Nigerians to continuously advocate for a democratic system and institutions that protect the rights and liberties of citizens, especially the right to choose their representatives in government through a free, fair and credible electoral process.

“I call on all Nigerians to remain vigilant and continuously advocate for a Democratic system and institutions that cannot be easily manipulated to deny individuals the right to serve their people after securing their mandates through free and fair elections. Until that is achieved, the essence of making June 12 Democracy Day in recognition of the late Democracy hero, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (MKO) will remain defeated”

Ajia urges all citizens to continue to work towards strengthening our democracy.

“Let us all embrace the principles of democracy and work towards building a society that promotes freedom, equality and inclusiveness.

In the statement Ajia emphasised the importance of democracy in our society.

“As we celebrate Democracy Day, I want to reminds Nigerians that democracy is not just a system of government, but a way of life that promotes freedom, equality, and justice for all.

“Democracy empowers citizens to have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives, and it allows for peaceful transitions of power.

“As we celebrate Democracy Day, we must commit ourselves to upholding its principles and values.”

pointing out that, the just concluded general election was another significant milestone in our democratic journey while appreciating the support of his constituents during the election.
