The ongoing training of medical personnel and other stakeholders on the introduction of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Vaccine into Routine Immunisation in Nigeria has been described as a way to prevent cervical cancer among girls and future generation.
The Program Manager of the State Emergency Routine Immunisation Coordination Centre (SERICC), Mrs Garuba Kahdijat stated this at the venue of the training in Lokoja.
Mrs Kahdijat said HPV vaccine had been introduced in the country last year with sixteen states as the pilot scheme emphasising that the remaining twenty one states of the federation have commenced their training since last week.
She emphasised that the training is meant to be extended into the twenty one Local Government Area of the state after which it will snowballed to the ward level as well as the health care facilities that will carry out the vaccinations.
According to her, awareness campaign about the vaccinations will commence next month emphasising that (SERICC) had previously constituted a Technical Working Group involving all stakeholders including the Ministry of Education, Women Affairs, National Orientation Agency, Tertiary/Secondary Health Care in the State to assist in the realisation of the objectives.
She listed the participants at the training to include: representatives from the Primary Health Care, World Health Organization, UNICEF, USAID among others.
