The Gombe State First Lady, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya, has flagged off the 2026 Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, with a call for collective action to end all forms of violence, particularly in the digital space.

The campaign, with the theme “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” was launched at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.
In her remarks, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya described gender-based violence as a harmful practice that threatens societal well-being. She urged the public to remain vigilant and work together to curb the menace, while reaffirming the state government’s commitment to protecting all citizens, especially women and children.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Miss Asma’u Mohammed Iganus, said a sensitisation team will visit all local government areas to educate communities on the dangers of gender-based violence.
She stressed the need for collective responsibility to ensure perpetrators are held accountable.
The Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs, Mr. Edward Yerima, commended the First Lady and the ministry for their continuous efforts in creating awareness.
He encouraged residents to report cases of abuse and urged parents to closely monitor their children.
Shortly after the event, the First Lady led an advocacy team to the Zainab Bulkachuwa Women and Children Maternity, Da’awa Orphanage Home, and Bege Orphanage Home in Tumfure, where she interacted with caregivers and offered support.
Representatives of Da’awa Orphanage Home and Bege Orphanage Home, Malam Muhammad Lawan and Mr. Polycarp Yousuf Degri, appreciated the First Lady’s visit, describing it as the first of its kind. They also prayed for the continued success of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration.
