From Bola Ogunlayi, Ibadan

Former governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, has died at the age of 71.

He was the All Progressive Congress (APC) leader in the state.

His death came amidst controversy over the state congress of the Party held late last year.

The APC National Secretariat mandated Alao-Akala to meet aggrieved people in a renewed bid to safe the Party from threatening internal bickering.

Details of his death is still sketchy as of the time of filing this report but sources close to the politician confirmed the tragic incident on Tuesday.

Born on June 3, 1950, at Ogbomoso, in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Alao-Akala had his elementary school at Osupa Baptist Day School, Ogbomoso, before proceeding to Kamina Barracks Middle School, 5th Battalion of Infantry in Tamale, Ghana.

He was the candidate of the ADP in the 2019 governorship election in Oyo State which was eventually won by Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a related development, the House of Representatives member representing Oluyole Federal constituency, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe has described the death of former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, as a huge loss, not just to Oyo APC, but to the Oyo State as a whole.

Akande-Sadipe said this in a statement issued by her Media Aide, Olamilekan Olusada in Ibadan on Wednesday.

According to Akande-Sadipe, late Alao-Akala was an elder statesman, whose wealth of experience would be missed by all in the State chapter of the All Progressives Congress.

“On behalf of members of our great party in Oluyole Federal constituency, I condole with the late Chief Alao-Akala’s loved ones, family members and the people of Ogbomosho, on the passing on to the glory of our father. This is a big loss to our party.

I pray that God would usher his soul into eternal rest and grant the family he left behind fortitude to bear the loss. He will be sorely missed.
