First Lady’s Advocacy Gets Traditional Boost in Nafada and Funakaye

The Emirs of Nafada and Funakaye have reaffirmed their full support to the Gombe State Government in the fight against Gender Based Violence.

The royal fathers gave the assurance while receiving the First Lady’s entourage on a sensitisation tour.

The Emirs, Alhaji Muhammadu Dadum Hamza and Alhaji Yakubu Muhammadu Kwairanga, described gender-based violence as a growing concern that must be addressed urgently while called for decisive action against perpetrators and urged the newly inaugurated committee to be fair and just in executing its mandate.

Representing the First Lady, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Miss Asma’u Mohammed Iganus, expressed worry over increasing cases of gender violence in the state and stressed the need for collective effort to curb the menace.

She inaugurated a fifteen member committee that will take the campaign down to ward levels and presented copies of the Child Rights Law to the Emirs and committee members for community sensitisation.

The Chairman of the Gombe State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs, Mr. Gabriel Galadima, cautioned the public to desist from acts of violence, noting that the law will decisively handle offenders.

In a welcome address, the wives of the chairmen of Nafada and Funakaye LGAs, Hajiya Jamila Babangida Jigawa and Hajiya Aisha Shuaibu Abdulrahman, expressed joy over the First Lady’s visit and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the campaign’s goals.

The First Lady’s campaign continues across local government areas as part of efforts to end gender based violence in the state.
