Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN), a leading Pan-African food and agro-allied company, has announced the commencement of the fourth edition of its Prize for Innovation (PFI). With the theme “Innovative Practices in Livestock Farming in Nigeria,” this year’s competition underscores FMN’s commitment to sustainable agricultural solutions and long-term economic development.
Entries for the 2025 competition opened on January 24 and will run until February 28, following a two-week extension. To build anticipation and awareness, FMN will host a fireside chat on Arise TV on February 20, featuring past judges who will share their insights and experiences.
Since its inception in 2021, the FMN Prize for Innovation has provided a platform for young innovators and entrepreneurs to contribute to Nigeria’s food security agenda. Highlighting an important aspect of the food value chain each year, the initiative has supported businesses with over 50% growth in scale, thanks to financial backing, mentorship, and access to industry networks.
This year’s focus on livestock farming seeks to address critical challenges such as disease outbreaks, poor farm practices, and limited access to modern technology. Mr. Boye Olusanya, GMD/CEO of FMN, remarked, “Through the FMN Prize for Innovation, we are empowering Nigerians with groundbreaking ideas that strengthen the livestock value chain and improve productivity, driving sustainable growth in the sector.”
The competition features two categories: one for Nigerian SMEs in the agro-allied sector with scalable innovations and another for students proposing forward-thinking ideas. Winners will share cash prizes ranging from N5 million to N100,000 and receive one-year mentorship and industry exposure.
Mr. Sadiq Usman, FMN’s Group Director of Strategy and Stakeholder Relations, emphasized the initiative’s sustainability, stating, “The passion of our team and the process-driven approach have ensured consistent results. Beyond financial support, winners gain credibility, industry recognition, and access to resources that propel their businesses forward.”
By addressing critical gaps in livestock farming, FMN continues to champion Nigeria’s quest for self-reliance and agricultural diversification. Interested applicants can visit FMN’s official website or follow the company on social media for details.
