…Tasks Graduating Students on Integrity, Ethical Reporting
The Director General (Press Affairs), Gombe Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli on Wednesday tasked upcoming journalists to maintain high level of integrity and ethical reporting amidst technological innovations.
Ismaila Uba Misilli made this call on Wednesday while speaking as Guest Speaker during One-day seminar for graduating students of Mass Communication Department, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti held at School of Business Studies Lecture Theater 1.
The Director General who spoke virtually on the theme: Exploring opportunities in journalism for self development and sustainability, said Mass Communication is a lucrative course for creative minds and dedicated people.
His words: “It’s a rare privilege to address the graduating students of Mass Communication Department, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti. The seminar will create linkage between the industry experience and classroom. It’s worthy of note that you would be exposed to the reality of life as journalists after graduation from this institution.
“Let me emphasize that journalism stands on truth, integrity and fairness. You also need to ensure adherence to ethical guidelines and standards in order build good reputation.”
On AI adoption, Misilli cautioned participants against total dependency on artificial intelligence, stating that the technological tool cannot cover event or carry out investigative reports.
He appreciated the Polytechnic Management and Acting Head of Department for organising insightful seminar.
Earlier in her opening address, the Acting Head of Department, Mrs Oluwaseun Adepoju said the Seminar was organised to bridge the gap between media industry and classroom.
Adepoju used the opportunity to thank Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Engr. Dr. Temitope Alake for investing heavily in the department, especially with recent launch of FEDPOLAD Radio.
Lecturers in the department; Miss Bello Sophiath, Mr Adamu Aliyu and Mr. Oyewale Oyelola while speaking during the Panel session tasked participants to discover and nurture their talents in order to become self reliant.
Highlight of the occasion was the interesting performance of music and dance by MACOSA Cultural Troupe.
Dignitaries at the event include ASUP Vice Chairman, Abdulrazaq Maruf Olarewaju, Lecturers and some stakeholders graced the Seminar.
