The Centre for the Study and Resolution of Domestic Violence, with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has organized a two-day stakeholders sensitization workshop in Gombe State Ministry of Women affairs and Social development
The event focused on critical issues including sexual and reproductive health and rights, child marriage, gender-based violence, and gender equality.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, the Gombe State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Mrs Asma’u Mohammed Iganus, reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, to partner with stakeholders for the development of women and the eradication of gender-based violence.
Asma’u Iganus urged all non-governmental organizations operating in the state to collaborate closely with the Ministry in implementing their programmes to ensure alignment and impact.
Also speaking at the event, the Director of the National Orientation Agency in Gombe State, Miss Adaline Waye Patari, alongside the Senior District Head of Gombe, expressed appreciation to UNFPA for its continued support in safeguarding the lives of vulnerable populations. They encouraged the agency to sustain its momentum.
Delivering a lecture, Professor Hauwa Yusuf, a facilitator at the programme, addressed topics such as gender-based violence, early marriage, and the Child Rights Act while she emphasized the need for greater involvement of traditional leaders, including village heads, district heads, and emirs, in amplifying these messages within their communities.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders across various sectors, united in a shared mission to eliminate gender-based violence and promote gender equality in Gombe State.
