Gombe Women Affairs Commissioner Presents GBV Law to Emir of Gombe and ALGON Chairman

The Gombe State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Miss Asma’u Mohammed Iganus, has presented copies of the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) law to the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III and Chairman Gombe local government council Barrister Sani Ahmadu Haruna

The presentation was made during a high-level advocacy and sensitization visit to the Emir’s palace the event was organized as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen traditional and religious leaders’ involvement in the fight against gender-based violence and harmful social practices in the state.

In her remarks, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of traditional institutions in championing social change and protecting the rights of women, children, and other vulnerable groups. She called on leaders to support the full implementation of the GBV law and to help raise awareness in their communities.

The Emir of Gombe, Represented by Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro Danlawan Gombe, receiving the document, commended the initiative and reaffirmed the commitment of the traditional institution to support government efforts aimed at ending all forms of violence and abuse.

On his part, the Chairman of Gombe Local Government Council, Barrister Sani Ahmad Haruna, expressed satisfaction with the sensitization initiative and pledged the council’s unwavering support for the campaign.

The Commissioner was accompanied by key stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Gombe State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs, Mr Gabriel Galadima, as well as Yerima Ladan Gaule and Adamu Musa among others.

The event was supported by UN Women and held under the supervision of the Gombe State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
