Gov. Inuwa Heads Committee on Polio Mitigation

The Gombe state Governor  Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya,  has been appointed as the Chairman Committee on mitigation of Polio recurrence in some affected states across the country.

This was an outcome of the National Economic Council Meeting chaired by the Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa where  other serious issues affecting the nation were discussed.
Briefing newsmen shortly after the meeting, the Gombe state deputy governor Manassah Daniel Jatau, who represented  the Governor  at the  meeting said the appointment of the governor was because of his position as the Chairman northern governor’s Forum and in addition to the  significant achievements in the state health sector, especially in the area of vaccination.
The deputy governor explained that the NEC meeting discussed issues affecting the states and the nation, which  include reccurrence of Polio in some five states of  Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi.
He said the meeting also discussed some of the present calamities like wash-out of roads and bridges resulting from floods where the Vice President directed that cases of such be submitted to him not later than Monday next week.
Dr. Jatau said that during the meeting he had the opportunity to inform the gathering about the inclusivity method  taken by the  Inuwa Yahaya’s administration where Traditional, Religious, and Community leaders alongside all stakeholders were involved in the process of decision making and implementation for efficiency and effectiveness.
He  also brought up the issue of Socially hard to reach groupd, which is the limitation of access to vaccination as a result of cultural, philosophical and ideological barriers, and the need for addressing such barriers towards achieving optimum coverage.
The deputy governor  said, the meeting equally discussed the need for identifying local stuff that can provide the needed balanced diet to reduce the devastating effect of malnutrition in the society.
