Hon. Sodiq Omotayo Calls for Global Restraint and Diplomacy Amid Escalating Israel-Iran Conflict

1 Mins read

In the wake of a dramatic escalation in hostilities between Israel and Iran, Nigerian political advocate Hon. Sodiq Omotayo has issued a strong appeal for restraint, dialogue, and international diplomatic intervention to prevent further bloodshed.

Hon. Omotayo expressed deep concern over reports of an Israeli military strike on Iranian territory and Iran’s swift retaliatory attack, describing the development as a “dangerous turn” in an already fragile Middle Eastern landscape.

“As an advocate for peace, justice, and responsible global leadership, I wish to express my deep concern over today’s military escalation between Israel and Iran,” he stated in a press release issued Friday morning.

Calling for an immediate halt to the “cycle of provocation and retaliation,” the Nigerian statesman urged both Israel and Iran to prioritize de-escalation and the wellbeing of their citizens. He warned that continued aggression could lead to broader regional instability and threaten global peace efforts.

Hon. Omotayo specifically appealed to the leadership of Israel and Iran to show restraint and engage in dialogue with the international community, including the United Nations and the African Union, to intensify diplomatic efforts, the global citizens and leaders to voice support for peaceful resolutions over warfare.

Accordung to him, “Nigeria, as a nation built on resilience and unity amid diversity, understands the importance of dialogue,” he emphasized. “We stand in solidarity with all those affected by this conflict and remain hopeful that reason, not rage, will guide the days ahead.”

Omotayo’s statement underscores Nigeria’s broader foreign policy stance, which has traditionally favored non-alignment, peacebuilding, and multilateral cooperation in conflict resolution. His message comes at a time when global powers are scrambling to respond to the rising tensions that many fear could spiral into a wider regional war.

“Peace is not passive — it is a responsibility we must all bear,” he concluded.

The call from Hon. Omotayo adds to the growing chorus of voices urging calm and negotiation in one of the world’s most volatile geopolitical hotspots. The coming days will likely test the resolve of international diplomacy in averting a full-scale conflict.
