Kogi state Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has added its voice to the condemnation of the waves of kidnappings across the country.
Chairman of the Union, Comrade Abayomi Ayoola who led a peaceful protest in Lokoja with members of the union across the three Senatorial Districts of the state said the academic circle is enveloped with grieve due to the insecurity.
Describing the situation as an embarrassment to the nation, Comrade Ayoola apeaked to the Federal Government to expidite action towards the release of the captives particularly Oyo teachers and pupils.
He called for collaborative efforts with others nations in the aspect of intelligent information gathering, stiffer boarder control and surveillance for quick recognition of perpetrators of evils
He said the video of the victims circulating online is traumatizing emphasizing the danger of exposing schools internal or external threat.
The Unionist also suggested a more responsive governance in the aspect of job creation to avoid youths being trapped into criminal world.
He maintained that teachers are doing their best in character molding saying religious organization should do more in advocacy for peace, love and compassion.
His words; ” we as members of the Union are appealing to the Federal Government to rigig the security architecture in the country. The issue of kidnappings on daily basis is traumatic and sad. It has cast a shadow of grieve on the entire nation. It is a bad signal because school should represent an atmosphere of peace and civilization. The country needs to retrace it’s steps to avoid discouragement in parents and pupils. More jobs should be created and clerics must continue to harps on kindness”.
On whether ransom payment should be discouraged, the Unionist said kidnapping has sadly become a lucrative business to evil doers, saying any rational man will do whatever it takes to save his loved ones.
