The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kwara State Council has dissolved its Credentials Screening Committee amid allegations of compromise and procedural irregularities.

The decision was made during an emergency congress held at the NUJ Press Centre in Ilorin on Friday.

Originally scheduled to be held in the Conference Hall, the meeting took place in an open space within the premises after the hall was under lock and key.

The emergency congress saw significant attendance from members across various chapels, demonstrating the urgency and importance of the issues at hand.

Mallam Abdulhakeem Garba, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, chaired the congress in the absence of the Council Chairman, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed, and other State Working Committee (SWC) members, who failed to attend despite calls for the emergency meeting.

The Kwara Council State Executive Council (SEC) had earlier called for the congress to address critical issues and ensure a transparent election process for the forthcoming 2024 Kwara NUJ Elections.
