Kwara NUJ Holds Successful Triennial Conference, Ushers in New Leadership

The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has successfully concluded its 2024 State Triennial Conference, marking a significant milestone in the annals of the union. The conference, which was held on [insert date], saw the smooth transition of power and the election of a new State Working Committee (SWC) to lead the council for the next three years.

According to a statement e-signed by Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed (LLJ), the outgoing Chairman of the Kwara State Council of NUJ, the conference was conducted in a free and fair manner, with eligible members exercising their franchise without fear or favor. The statement dispelled rumors of a court injunction that threatened to derail the process, affirming that the conference proceeded as scheduled and in accordance with the provisions of the NUJ Constitution and the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The statement further highlighted the presence of representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) who monitored the conference from start to finish, ensuring the integrity of the process. The security agents deployed for the event also conducted themselves professionally, preventing any attempts to compromise the outcome.

“The interesting part of the entire process was the strong determination of members of the council to ensure that the triennial conference reflects their wishes irrespective of whose ox is gored,” the statement read.

The new leadership of the Kwara State Council of NUJ, under the guidance of the National Secretariat, is now poised to take the union to greater heights, with a commitment to fostering unity, innovation, and the betterment of all members.
