The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has once again demonstrated its commitment to transparency and inclusivity in regulatory development, with the commencement of a 2-day Public Inquiry into three regulatory instruments.

Held on May 21-22, 2024, at the Conference Centre, the event brought together industry stakeholders, both in-person and virtually, to provide inputs on the regulatory instruments.

In his opening remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, emphasized the significance of the public inquiry, stating that it was a crucial step in ensuring that the regulatory instruments meet the needs of all stakeholders.

“The public inquiry is an essential part of our consultative approach to regulatory development,” Dr. Maida said. “We believe that by engaging with industry stakeholders, we can create regulatory instruments that are effective, efficient, and beneficial to all.”

Mrs. Chizua Whyte, Ag. Head of Legal and Regulatory Services Department of NCC, welcomed participants to the event, emphasizing the importance of their contributions.

“We value your inputs and perspectives, and we are committed to ensuring that they are taken into account in the development of these regulatory instruments,” she said.

The public inquiry is a testament to NCC’s dedication to transparency and inclusivity in regulatory development. By engaging with industry stakeholders, the commission can ensure that its regulatory instruments are well-informed, effective, and beneficial to all.

As the NCC continues to strive for excellence in regulatory development, events like the public inquiry demonstrate its commitment to collaboration and inclusivity.

The three regulatory instruments under review are crucial to the telecommunications industry, and the public inquiry provided a platform for stakeholders to share their thoughts and concerns.

Dr. Maida emphasized that the NCC is committed to creating an enabling environment for the telecommunications industry to thrive, and that the regulatory instruments are designed to promote innovation, competition, and consumer protection.

“The NCC is dedicated to ensuring that our regulatory instruments are dynamic, responsive, and forward-looking,” he said. “We believe that by working together with industry stakeholders, we can create a regulatory framework that supports the growth and development of the telecommunications sector.”

The public inquiry was well-attended by industry stakeholders, including telecom operators, equipment manufacturers, and consumer advocacy groups. Participants engaged in lively discussions and debates, providing valuable insights and suggestions on the regulatory instruments.

The NCC will now review the inputs and feedback received during the public inquiry, and use them to refine and finalize the regulatory instruments. The commission is committed to ensuring that the final instruments reflect the needs and concerns of all stakeholders.

By fostering inclusivity and transparency in regulatory development, the NCC is setting a high standard for regulatory excellence in the telecommunications industry. As the sector continues to evolve, the commission’s commitment to collaboration and stakeholder engagement will be crucial in shaping the future of telecommunications in Nigeria.

The public inquiry is a shining example of the NCC’s commitment to transparency and accountability. By opening up the regulatory development process to stakeholder input, the commission is ensuring that the regulatory instruments are robust, effective, and meet the needs of all stakeholders.

“The NCC is committed to transparency and accountability in all its regulatory activities,” Dr. Maida said. “We believe that by engaging with stakeholders, we can create regulatory instruments that are fair, reasonable, and promote the growth and development of the telecommunications sector.”

The NCC’s consultative approach to regulatory development has been praised by industry stakeholders, who see it as a key factor in the commission’s success.

“The NCC’s commitment to stakeholder engagement is unparalleled,” said one industry stakeholder. “By involving us in the regulatory development process, the commission is ensuring that our concerns and needs are taken into account.”

As the NCC continues to drive the growth and development of the telecommunications sector, its commitment to transparency, accountability, and stakeholder engagement will remain crucial.

The public inquiry may be over, but the NCC’s work is far from done. The commission will now review the inputs and feedback received, and use them to refine and finalize the regulatory instruments.

The telecommunications sector is watching with keen interest, eager to see the final outcome of the regulatory instruments. One thing is certain, however – the NCC’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and stakeholder engagement has set a new standard for regulatory excellence in Nigeria.
