The Nigeria Interfaith Coalition for Freedom of Religion or Belief (NICFoRB) has strongly condemned the brutal mob killing of a female food vendor, Ammaye, in Kasuwan Garba, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, over allegations of blasphemy.
In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Felix Joseph Samari, NICFoRB described the incident as a “barbaric and inhumane act” that grossly violates fundamental human rights, including the right to life, freedom of religion or belief, and freedom of expression, as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

NICFoRB expressed grave concern that security personnel who had taken Ammaye into custody were overpowered by an irate mob, underscoring what it called “the alarming weakness of law enforcement and the urgent need for stronger mechanisms to protect citizens.”
The coalition therefore called on the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Inspector General of Police, and security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation into the incident, arrest and prosecute all perpetrators, and ensure justice is served without delay.
Furthermore, NICFoRB urged government institutions at both federal and state levels to adopt proactive measures to prevent future occurrences by strengthening community policing and security response systems, reviewing policies that indirectly encourage vigilante justice, promoting citizens’ education on religious tolerance, non-violence, and peaceful coexistence and supporting interfaith dialogue and peacebuilding efforts at the grassroots.

NICFoRB reaffirmed its commitment to defending Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) in Nigeria and called on religious leaders, civil society, and the international community to join hands in advocating for justice, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
