NSCDC Deploys 40,000 Personnel, Sniffer Dogs For Eid-el-Fitr

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has directed the deployment of 40, 000 personnel and sniffer dogs for Eid-Fitr celebration to provide maximum security during the festivity across the country. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Corps’ spokesperson, ACC. Emmanuel Okeh and made available to Time Nigeria.

 

According to the statement, “The Commandant General of the Corps assured Nigerians that in spite of the uncertain security situation in the country, adequate preparation is being made to protect critical areas such as places of worship, markets, motor parks, shopping malls, plazas, recreational centres, schools and other areas considered to be soft targets for attack by insurgents.

 

While calling on citizens to be extra vigilant and security conscious at all time, he charged them to report strange movements and objects to security personnel and the Corps he said is prepared to protect all critical national assets such as telecommunication masts power equipment and oil and gas pipelines among others.

 

Gana said,  “in addition to the deployment of personnel, sniffer dogs and specialised units such as SWAT, Special Force, CBRN, Surveillance Monitoring Team, Ambulances/Rescue Officers will be deployed to critical areas to protect critical National Assets and Infrastructure, Create Secured environment for both travellers and non-travellers, to enhance general security of the cities and to ensure effective collaboration and synergy with other sister security agencies in guarantying a hitch free EID-El-Fitir celebration.”

 

He stated further,  “In our efforts to fight miscreants and criminal-minded individuals who see festive periods as the time to perpetuate their nefarious activities, all hands must be on deck in the areas of intelligence-gathering and reporting all suspicious behaviour to relevant security authorities.”

 

Felicitating with all Nigerians, especially the Muslim Faithful on the Sallah celebration, he urged them to continue to imbibe the spirit of peaceful coexistence and tolerance at all time.

 

The Commandant General of the Corps gave this charge through the Acting Deputy Commandant General Madu Hillary Kelechi who is in charge of the Corps Operations at the Headquarters, Abuja.

 

Madu through his operational order has directed all Zonal and State Commandants to comply with the directive by ensuring effective and immediate deployment of personnel to all nooks and crannies.

 

He charged all Muslim faithful’s to imbibe the teaching of prophet Muhammed and to reflect on the fasting and prayer as a time of safer reflection by seeking for forgiveness of Sin alms giving and peaceful co-existence with other non-Muslim brothers and sisters and also to pray for the peace of the Nation and leaders.

 

While cautioning  personnel to shun unethical conduct by maintaining very high sense of discipline throughout the period and beyond as the Commandant General will not tolerate compromise and failure as excuse for any act of indiscipline, he also admonished them to always ensure they discharge their duties with high level of humility and integrity in service delivery, zero tolerance for corruption, non-compromise in all actions, remain civil and diplomatic in dealing with the civil populace and personnel of other security agencies. By applying the alternative dispute resolution mechanism at all time.

 

He tasked personnel to be transparent and accountable in their dealings, be diligent, committed and courageous in all their ways by remaining steadfast and operate conscientiously in line with the rules of law.

 

He thereby warned parents to advice their wards to stay out of trouble by avoiding any act capable of disturbing the peace of the nation, by shunning act of vandalism, illegal bunkery, thuggery and other social vices, as the law is no respecter of anyone.
