Offa Robbery, An Indictment on Nigeria’s Security Architecture, Says Omotosho

From Kayode Abdulazeez, Ilorin

The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Dr Mike Omotosho, has described as tragic, the robbery incident in Offa, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State where about 20 people were allegedly murdered. Adding that the incident is an indictment on the nation’s security architecture.

Dr Mike stated that the killing of innocent people as a fall out of the attack on some banks in the ancient town was heartbreaking, calling for immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

In a statement issued and made available to Journalists in Ilorin, the Labour Party leader said the murder of both policemen and innocent civilians in the robbery attack was an indication of weak and porous security system.

Dr. Omotosho added that such incident calls for urgent need to review the security system in Kwara State to avert such in the future.

He condoled with the Olofa of Offa, Muftau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II and the entire people and residents of the ancient town over what he described as “the height of callousness and impunity ” in recent times in the annals of the state.

Dr. Mike also sympathized with Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Lawan Ado, the State command and members of families of fallen policemen in general during the attack.

He however urged residents of the state to collaborate with the police offering any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the robbery gang.

Those who perpetrated this evil act must be brought to face justice in order to deter others. The reports and pictures from the scene of the incident were confounding to the extent that it amazes one that armed robbers could be so brazenly callous.

“Looking at our security system vis-a-vis this unfortunate incident; it’s obvious that there is problem with the system and a review of the system would be imperative in view of the gory sight that we have been fed with since the attack.

Once again, I sympathise and empathise with His Royal Highness, the Olofa of Offa, the people and residents of Offa as well as the state Police Command over the attendant killings as a result of the incident”.
