Oyo Journalists Brainstorm on Insecurity, Charge Citizens to be Vigilant.

Journalists in Oyo State South West, Nigeria has issued eight-point Communique calling for a concerted efforts in curbing pockets of incident of Kidnapping and robbery prevalent in the area.

A particular reference was made to an alarm raised by Baale of Iroko in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State on how people of the area have been subjected to palpable fear over activities of bandits.

The union also called on parents to monitor activities of their children during the long vacation especially in the area of censoring the film they watch now that the social media and some Broadcast stations churn out questionable films and vulgar images.

A Release issued by the Secretary of Oyo NUJ, comrade Bola Ogunlayi  charged parents to take care of their children and wards at this crucial time very seriously.  “Parents should take the opportunity of the summer holiday to engage young ones in vocational trainings in addition to conventional education/coaching”,the release added. The Congress enjoined citizens to brace up in taking up the challenge of internal security by providing useful information in time for Security Agencies.

The move, Journalists noted would checkmate the ugly development of invasion of land in Oyo State  by unwanted visitors.

The Release commended the Oyo state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for visitations made to Security Agencies in the state, stating that it has in a way changed the security narratives.

He was also commended for appointing Media Practitioners into the State Executive Council and running of the State’s Television and Radio Station, the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS).

The Union particularly stated that activities of the Governor should be in tandem with his campaign promises in the area of improving the welfare of members and provision of world class equipment to fortify activities and operations of the State owned Broadcasting Station and the Ministry of Information that is in dire need of operational facilities.

Traditional rulers including the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji were commended for taking steps in refusing granting of gracing space for Herdsmen to prevent future crises.
