Pro rata pay: ASUU demands removal of Adamu, Ngige, Keyamo

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Lokoja (FUL) branch, has demanded the sack of Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu; his Labour and Productivity counterpart, Dr. Chris Ngige as well as Festus Keyamo for constituting a clog in progress.

Keyamo is the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity as well as spokesperson of All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

The union stated this during a solidarity protest round the Adankolo campus of the institution, yesterday. It had declared yesterday as a lecture-free day as ordered by its parent body.

FUL dons had held emergency congress before embarking on a peaceful demonstration with placards across the campus.

The placards read: ‘Say no to casualisation of lecturers’, ‘Ngige must go, Okija shrine awaits you’, ‘Pay our eight months salary’, ‘Stop playing politics with our education’, ‘We are not casual workers’ among others.

Addressing journalists after the protest, the union’s chairman, Dr. Joshua Silas, said the the Federal Government, represented by the three ministers, revealed clearly that it was out to destroy public universities.

“We are calling on the President to remove the ministers before they completely destroy our educational system. They want to turn university lecturers to casual workers. This government wants to destroy public institutions,” he stated.

On the resumption of strike, Silas said “it is for the National Executive Council of ASUU to decide,” adding that they were just sensitising the public to how Ngige, Keyamo and Adamu were destroying the education sector.

“We also want to tell the public that we should not be blamed when we decide on the next line of action. This government wants to destroy education,” he added.
