Prof. I. Z. Aliagan Commiserates with NUJ, Journal8sm Community over Death of Layi Olanrewaju

The Dean, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Kwara State University, Professor I.Z. Aliagan, has expressed deep condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kwara State Council, and the entire journalism community over the passing of Mr. Layi Olanrewaju, Correspondent of The Sun Newspapers in Kwara State.

In a condolence message that was signed by Professor I. Z. Aliagan personally signedad made available to Time Nigeria he described the death of Mr. Olanrewaju as a painful and irreparable loss to the journalism profession, noting that the late journalist was widely respected for his professionalism, courage, and unwavering commitment to public interest reporting.

He stated that the loss resonates deeply within the media community, particularly among journalists who uphold ethical standards and view journalism as a service to society.

Professor Aliagan, a former Editor of The Herald, recalled the impactful tenure of the late Olanrewaju as Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ in Kwara State, describing him as a journalist who consistently upheld truth, fairness, and responsibility in the discharge of his duties.

He further noted that beyond his professional exploits, the deceased made meaningful contributions to public institutions, including Kwara State University, where he related constructively with the academic community.

The Dean prayed that Almighty God grant the NUJ, the journalism community, as well as the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased the strength and fortitude to bear the loss. He also urged journalists to sustain the professional values and ethical principles that Mr. Olanrewaju stood for throughout his career.

“Though he is gone, his commitment to journalism and service to society will continue to inspire the profession,” Professor Aliagan said.
