Redefining DA’WAH: Beyond Open Lectures and Crowdfunding

In a time when religious propagation is often reduced to open public lectures and mass fundraising events, a powerful message emerged at the recent NUSRET – LASU Seminar.

The seminar, attended by prominent Muslim scholars and leaders, aimed to redefine the concept of DA’WAH activities, emphasizing that it should encompass far more than mere preaching and gathering funds.

The event shed light on five crucial aspects without which any DA’WAH initiative remains incomplete. Drawing inspiration from the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions, attendees were urged to embrace a holistic approach to DA’WAH for true and rapid growth of Islam.

Empowerment Programs for the Poor and Needy:

At the heart of every successful DA’WAH activity lies a sincere commitment to improving the lives of the underprivileged. Participants stressed the importance of continuous economic assistance for basic needs, enabling needy families to lead meaningful lives.

Inspired by the life account of Prophet Muhammad and his companions, who tirelessly attended to the struggles of the needy regardless of their own circumstances, attendees advocated for sustainable empowerment programs as an integral part of DA’WAH activities.

Independence of the Muslim Community:

Building educational institutions and hospitals of international standards emerged as a crucial obligation for the Muslim community.

Inspired by Prophet Muhammad’s emphasis on knowledge acquisition and his frequent visits to the sick, experts emphasized the importance of establishing institutes that empower Muslims to excel in every aspect of life. By pursuing independence in education and healthcare, the Muslim community can reach new heights and contribute positively to society.

Promoting Peaceful Coexistence:

The seminar also highlighted the significance of cooperation with community leaders and government authorities in nurturing peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths. Attendees emphasized that Prophet Muhammad’s life in Medina exemplified his philosophy of harmonious living.

By embracing dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect, Muslims can contribute to a more inclusive and harmonious society.

Character Development:

The character of a DA’WAH worker was deemed more crucial than their preaching abilities. Attendees were inspired by Prophet Muhammad’s exemplary character, echoing the belief that the Quran is a testament to his noble traits.

As Sayyidatuna Aishat, his wife, declared, the character of Prophet Muhammad should serve as a blueprint for every DA’WAH worker. Promoting integrity, humility, and compassion should be key elements of every individual’s DA’WAH initiatives.

Nurturing Gifted Children:

Recognizing the potential within every child, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, attendees stressed the importance of investing in their education.

Scholarships should be readily accessible to qualified children, ensuring equal opportunities for the brightest minds. By actively supporting and mentoring gifted children, the Muslim community can nurture future leaders who will play a vital role in the growth of Islam.

The Seminar successfully challenged the prevailing notion of DA’WAH activities solely consisting of public lectures and fundraisers.

Attendees were inspired to adopt a more comprehensive approach, embracing pivotal components that ensure the true and rapid growth of Islam.

With a renewed focus on empowering the poor and needy, building institutions of excellence, promoting peaceful coexistence, developing strong character, and nurturing gifted children, DA’WAH workers and Muslim organizations hold the key to establishing Islam as a force for positive change in the world.
