A governorship hopeful of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Chief Hon. Olayinka Segelu, has called on youths across the state to remain united, shun division, and continue to support Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration in its ongoing efforts to advance development across the state.
In a goodwill message addressed to PDP youths in Oyo State on Sunday, Segelu acknowledged the frustrations and concerns expressed by young people but urged them to embrace dialogue and collaboration as tools for progress rather than confrontation.
“I have heard the concerns, frustrations, and honest feelings expressed by our youths — and I understand them,” Segelu said. “But let us also remember something important: Governor Seyi Makinde is human, just like every one of us. Leadership is never easy, and running a state as dynamic as Oyo comes with challenges that most people cannot see from the outside.”
The PDP chieftain commended Governor Makinde for his achievements in various sectors, including infrastructure, education, workers’ welfare, and rural development, noting that while no leader can get everything right at once, the governor has demonstrated willingness to listen and adjust when necessary.
“His Excellency has done his best to move Oyo State forward. He has proven that he listens and adjusts when the people speak,” Segelu added.
The Ibadan-born politician, who is a frontline contender for the 2027 Oyo State governorship race, appealed to the youth wing of the party to prioritise unity and positive engagement over anger and internal division.
“To my fellow youths, I say this: this is our time to build bridges, not burn them. Constructive dialogue will open more doors than anger or division. Let’s channel our energy toward unity, innovation, and positive engagement,” he said.
Segelu expressed confidence that continuous cooperation between the youth, elders, and government would yield greater opportunities across all 33 local government areas of the state, from Ibadan to Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun to Oyo, and Ibarapa to Lagelu.
He urged PDP youths to remain steadfast and committed to the party’s ideals, stressing that loyalty and collective effort are essential to consolidating the gains recorded under the current administration.
“Let us keep faith with the PDP family. Let us continue to support the vision of Governor Seyi Makinde while contributing our ideas and commitment to make Oyo State even greater,” he said.
Segelu concluded his message with a note of optimism: “Together, we can move from frustration to fulfillment — not by fighting our own, but by standing united for progress.”
